Dear DaveDavei

A hearty warm welcome to the Forums.

I clearly recall the lovely sight of these zebras grazing on the mountain slopes... it would be interesting to see what the feedback is.

A warm welcome to you Davedavie :D

I also remember the Zebras from many years ago when I worked at Groote Schuur. I would also be interested to know.

Hi and welcome davedavei! :D

I saw a few zebras there a few days ago. The majority of the zebras were relocated about a year ago. I can't recall 'where to' but I read that they needed them to boost the 'Quagga' breeding program - apparently the Devil's Peak zebras have the nearest known bloodline to the original Quagga.

Thanks for that Wanda, that is really interesting.

I remember how I used to watch them grazing on the slopes.

Will look for them next time I drive that way.

If you don't hear from me again, I will have paid too much attention to it and not enough to driving........

Interesting about the relocation, and intriguing about the quagga program. I wonder how they decided how many to relocate etc. as it must be hard to strike the right balance.

Hi Guys,

As far as I know and from what I heard the majority of the Zebras and Black Wildebeest that we used to see grazing on the slopes were moved to Mokala National Park in Kimberley :hmz:
